While many may aspire to having home theaters that look like dedicated movie theaters -- or expensive, posh décor -- for the majority, it’s all about finding places to put individual components around the TV. Setting up fashionable-looking lamps for illumination or bringing in props like popcorn machines or high-tech soda dispensers is low on the ladder -- we’re not movie stars!
But a little fashion doesn’t hurt, especially when it’s not just affordable but practical. It comes from Polaroid and it’s designed for 3D TVs that use polarized viewing screens to display 3D. As a quick reminder, a polarized or “passive” 3D TV requires polarized glasses in order for the image to be seen as three-dimensional. These glasses, by their very nature, are more lightweight than the “active” liquid-crystal glasses, since no electronics or batteries need be installed.
But while looking like one of the Men in Black while wearing a pair of polarized glasses may be cool, stepping outside with them on isn’t -- the lenses are NOT designed for use in the Sun and getting behind the wheel while wearing them is an invitation to an accident. Unless you’re wearing the RealD 3D enabled glasses from the Polaroid 3D PerfectionVision collection, that is.
That’s because the Polaroid Premium model does double-duty: it’s a pair of highly efficient circular polarized glasses for watching 3D on “passive” 3D TVs to start. This guarantees that, just like in the movie theaters, you won’t be straining your eyes to see what’s on the screen. And a special coating on the lenses is purported to aid in making the view even more enjoyable.
But that’s not all -- you can pop out the lenses and replace them with inserts that are designed for use as sunglasses. Since Polaroid has been making sunglasses since the 1930‘s, you’d expect them to know what they’re doing (and they do). The shape of the Polaroids doesn’t change, but what you’re seeing through the lenses do. And besides being safe now for use outdoors while wearing, you’re looking cool. MIB cool.
These Polaroid 3D glasses comes in two frame styles, with both including a protective soft case that, while a bit large for a pocket, provides a convenient way to carry both the glasses and the pair of inserts that are presently not being worn. So while your home theater may not look like it was put together for Brad Pitt, you’ll at least look as good as he does when stepping out -- providing the rest of your outfit matches the cool Polaroids you’re now wearing.
