Peter Jackso's next film in J.R.R. Tolkien's mythology is none other than The Hobbit. It will be based on the classic that paved the way for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy -- and is a renown masterpiece of fantasy storytelling.
The full name of the title is "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." the first trailer of the film has recently been released and you can see it here.
The trailer shows Gandalf, Bilbo Baggins, and a bunch of other characters in the story that will make an impact. The story revolves around Bilbo Baggins, who is regarded as Frodos uncle or heir, going on an adventure with a group of dwarves. Gandalf will also be going along. Oh yea, good ol' Gollum will also makes his presence felt along with the ring.
It will be interesting to see if Peter Jackson changed his mind about the issue of ticket prices for 3D films. He claimed the higher ticket prices of 3D films are causing audiences to watch 2D films instead. Jackson will soon find out when The Hobbit debuts next December. It will probably be available in 2D, with HD resolutions, on top of 3D; so comparisons can be made with ticket sales.
A fantasy or adventure like this should be awesome in 3D if you ask me. If 3D was as popular as it is today, I think it's safe to awesome the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy would have ben shot that way. Keep in mind that if a film is shot with 3D in mind from the get go, some effects like camera zooms or aspects the way the film is laid out gets adopted to take full advantage of the medium.
Look for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey to hit theaters on Dec. 12. 2012 -- this release date is listed on IMDB.
